Friends and Members:
“In God We Trust” Earlier I saw a firetuck with that great phrase printed on the side of the truck! That phrase is historically and Biblically at the foundation of our faith and a number of others. Throughout the Old Testament the tribes of Israel where chastised to always trust in God. The Psalmists and Prophets main themes related to trust in God, Throughout the New Testament and especially in the writings of Paul you find this same cornerstone of faith. The founders of this great nation of ours 246 years ago put their trust in God and eventually the phrase appeared on our currency and for now is still there. Our pledge of allegiance states within it, “one nation under God.” All around us today there seems to be more and more insecurity, uncertainty, fear, hate and anger. The media is reporting how this unrest is being blamed on a flag, educational institutions, unions, politicians and political beliefs, climate change and ironically our history. There are more I could name but you know who or what is being blamed. I believe that all this blame is focused in the wrong direction. I believe it goes back to the first four words in this note…”In God We Trust.” As a nation we have thrown out the baby with the bathwater. We have driven God out of our schools and enticed our families away from their faith. Church attendance across the various denominations is dropping like a sinker on a fishing line. Sunday morning activities beyond the church have greater priority. Someone told me recently that in their youth the two things they did each week was go to school and go to church. Not so today. It seems that the lowest priority in most peoples lives is not the strengthening of their faith and there relationship to God. Today our society is paying a terrible price for moving God to the back of the line. As you read this take an inventory of where you place your faith and your worship in your daily lives. Does God come before baseball, gardening, bar-b-que, shopping, travel, I-phone or eating out? If not then you have the real answer to what is wrong with this country today! It is time once more to truly shout from the rooftops “God Bless America-One Nation Under God”
