“Best laid plans…..” This quote applies more often then not to a lot of our personal and professional plans. Due to personal circumstances we will not have a sunrise service this year but for the past few years on Easter Sunday Morning we had scheduled a sunrise service. To prepare I would spend a number of hours scanning and recording appropriate music for the service and specifically to give us an uplifting experience as we watched the sun break forth over the mountains to the east. I would spend a number of mornings sitting on the church steps timing the sunrise and also locating where it would break forth. This all was coordinated with prayers and scripture and a meditation. On many of those mornings at the very moment the sunrise was to break over the mountains it would be blocked from our view by some morning clouds. The more I have thought about the event the more I realized how the clouds blocking the sun are not unlike how “clouds” interfere with many of our plans. A vacation that is canceled because of illness or car problems. A recipe for a special meal that cannot be completed because of a missing ingredient. You know what plans in your life have been blocked by “clouds.’ The disciples must have had that same feeling of despair and disappointment when Jesus was crucified and was buried. That was the ultimate cloud of humankind. But during that first Easter Day the sun broke through the clouds of life and his resurrection was affirmed to his followers. We have all seen beautiful sunrises but I am sure they could never compare with how the morning of the next day after the resurrection felt to the disciples. Do not let the clouds in your life stop you from making new plans and enjoying their fulfillment. Have a blessed Easter!
